Levaquin is concentration-dependent, meaning it kills bacteria most efficiently when the right amount of medicine has been absorbed into your body. Patients receiving Levaquin and the safety in pediatric patients treated for more than 14 days has not been studied. Levofloxacin is a synthetic broad spectrum antibacterial agent for oral and intravenous administration. Levaquin is known as the fluoroquinolone antibiotic, which is in a group of medications used generally to treat difficult infections, most commonly those that affect the urinary tract in patients. Medications with a known history of reacting with Levaquin include cisapride, depridil, droperidol, methadone, pentamidine, theophylline, blood thinners like warfarin or Coumadin, oral diabetes medication, insulin, and aspirin. Taking Levofloxacin with an acidic beverage such as a cola drink may increase its absorption.
